Where to Purchase Tools Locally

Postby jrc » Fri Mar 12, 2010 10:45 am

Where can I purchase wood turning tools locally other than Woodcraft and Harbor Freight? I'm a beginner so I was looking for an inexpensive but not cheap set. I'm located in the Richmond, VA area but willing to travel within reason.

I know you asked about locally, but something you should consider as a new turner is to look at Penn States "Benjamin's Best" line up of turning tools. they are made of quality High speed steel, and are a good value for the quality. You can get a set for about $80.00 that will include a bowl gouge, parting tool, spindle gouges, etc.

For the price there is probably not a better quality or value on the retail market. Trust me, all the turners go through this same process. Here is the link:

Our woodturning club purchased these sets for our lathes to teach new turners, etc, and everyone likes them. They come in a wooden box and you will find they hold an edge pretty well.
